Emerald Park Zoo is looking to recruit an experienced zookeeper to join our growing animal collection. Located just 30 minutes from Dublin, Emerald Park opened its doors in 2010 and continues to be one of Ireland’s most visited attractions, with over 700,000 guests per year. We are proud members of BIAZA and EAZA and currently participate in 20 ESB & EEPs. It is an exciting time as we plan our future growth and regeneration of our zoo.

Reports to: Senior Zookeepers

Permanent role 45 hours on average     Emerald Park Zoo     jobsemeraldpark.ie     

Role & responsibilities

Routine cleaning and maintenance of animal enclosures.

Preparation and distribution of diets.

Monitoring and reporting physiological and behavioural changes in the animals.

Routine husbandry tasks handling and training animals.

Engaging with guests and promoting the conservation partners Emerald Park supports.

Working conditions

Rotating roster with a variable number of weekends per year.

20 days annual leave.

Salary €29,000 per year.

Minimum requirements – experience & education

5+ years paid experience working in an accredited zoological collection.

Secondary education and / or, if successful, is willing to complete DMZAA within the first two years of working at Emerald Park.

Preferred requirements – experience & education

Experience working and training domestic hoof stock, birds, and / or small mammals.

Experience working in diverse teams.

Tertiary level education (has already completed DMZAA, or, if successful, is willing to complete it within the first two years of working at Emerald Park).

Physical requirements

High levels of physical activity, strength, stamina, and / or endurance are required for this job.
