We are seeking a dedicated UN Volunteer to serve as Associate Human Rights Officer with OHCHR in the Federated States of Micronesia. Under the supervision of the Pacific UN Human Rights (OHCHR) Regional Representative and delegated supervision of the Human Rights Officer/Nuclear Legacy focal point, the UN Volunteer will be assigned to support the office's efforts in promoting the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment, addressing climate change, and advancing gender equality.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

1) Support the planning and organisation of activities related to women’s rights and gender equality and climate change and environment, in line with the PRO’s Annual work plan.

2) Conduct substantive research and analysis on the human rights situation in the Micronesian region.

3) Assists in developing and implementing capacity building initiatives and training programmes for national institutions, journalists and civil society organisations on human rights and countering discrimination at regional and country levels.

4) Supports the Human Rights Officer in the drafting of a variety of internal and external reports, communications, briefings, statements, including to policy making bodies;

5) Create educational and promotional activities to raise awareness on human rights in Micronesia; and

6) Develop and implement a communication strategy to increase external engagement on these issues, and among others, sharing of information of related activities on social media.

7) Performs other related duties as required.

Key Requirements:

- 1 years of experience in human rights law, international relations, gender, climate change and environment, nuclear legacy, peace and conflict studies or a related area;

- Bachelor degree or equivalent in human rights, law, political science, climate change/environment, gender equality/women’s studies, international relations, community development, sociology, peace and conflict studies or related field.

- Knowledge of international human rights instruments and mechanisms;

- Good communication and analytical skills;

- Experience in organising events and capacity building for the promotion and protection of human rights is desirable;

- Experience in data collection and dissemination through various platforms is desirable;

- Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.
