Descripción de la oferta de trabajo:

A position as Staff Scientist (A-TAP salary level) is available at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark, Odense, from the 1st of June 2024.

The employee will be part of Professor Jan-Wilhelm Kornfeld’s DDEA (Danish Diabetes and Endocrine Academy) funded research group (www.kornfeldlab.com), which is interested in understanding the role of Noncoding RNAs such as miRNAs and epigenetic (chromatin) processes that regulate energy metabolism, with a focus on adipose (fat) tissue regulation in obese rodent models and patients. In our work we utilize multimodal -omics methods such as (small) RNA-Seq, computational approaches, and transgenic mice to identify and molecularly characterize disease-associated Noncoding RNAs and chromatin signatures in vivo.

We are seeking an employee (biologist, bioinformatician or related field within biomedicine) who can independently conceptualise and carry out research projects, is actively involved in the groups’ research projects and appreciates being a central part of an ambitious, international team of scientists.

The ideal candidate excels in one or many of the following techniques:

• Assisting in preparing adipose tissues and cells for omic (transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolomics) analyses.

• Contributing to research activities in the group by computational support.

• Analysing NGS datasets from mouse and human tissues.

• Developing novel methods for genome-wide understanding of Noncoding RNA function in mice (AGO2-CLIP).

• Aiding in husbandry, handling and phenotyping of transgenic mice.

• Assisting training of undergraduate students and guest scientists.

• Contributing to teaching activities in English in the group and for the Department.

Preferred education and background:

• A PhD degree in life sciences and / or computer sciences.

• Experience in Noncoding RNA biology and biochemistry.

• Experience in characterising (transgenic) mouse models of metabolic disease.

• Ideally one first authorship published in a leading journal in the field (or under submission to a visible journal in the field).

• Proficiency in R or one other main programming languages (e.g. Python).

• Willingness to receive additional training in computational analyse and integration of omics data.

• Good collaborative skills, a positive attitude towards science and its contribution to society.

• A supportive, pragmatic colleague with contagious optimism to overcome challenges in academic research.

• High diligence and the intellectual and time flexibility required for an academic position.

• Overall: An open and positive mind that actively contributes to the infrastructure and the success of the research team and the Department.
