Sleep Laboratory Manager - Sleep Medicine

Landspitali - The National University Hospital of Iceland is looking for an English-speaking sleep laboratory manager to work in Reykjavik. The Department of Sleep Medicine has a strong research program with numerous international collaborations groups and Reykjavik's unique position as the world`s northern-most capital city provides a fascinating set of challenges for sleep and circadian disorders.

Clinically, the service provides diagnostic and treatment services for all of Iceland covering the full range of sleep disorders, and ventilator care for patients requiring long term ventilatory support throughout the country.

Extensive work experience is required in a sleep disorders service. The position is available immediately, but starting date is negotiable.

Main tasks and responsibilities

The sleep lab manager works under the direction of the unit's specialists and the main tasks are overseeing the technical aspects of the sleep disorders service including quality assurance, calibration of equipment and verification of signals, equipment safety and maintenance, and supervision and training of scientific staff. The role will also involve the scoring of PSG, MSLT, and HSAT studies and working with medical and nursing staff to optimize PAP therapies. The sleep lab manager will have a key role in developing the lab manual, quality management system, audit processes and ongoing staff education programs in order to achieve accreditation standards.

Qualification requirements

•    Extensive work experience is required in a sleep disorders service, including set up and interpretation of level 1 attended polysomnography according to AASM standards for both diagnostic and titration studies

•    Tertiary degree in biological or physical sciences

•    Completed Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or equivalent

•    Experience in sleep disorders service quality management practices

•    Good English skills, both written and verbal

•    Trained in Basic Life Support

Desirable selection criteria

•    Experience in sleep disorders service management

•    Experience in preparation for accreditation with ESRS, AASM, ASA/NATA or equivalent

•    Experience in sleep research

•    Willingness to learn Icelandic

Salary is determined according to the current collective agreement concluded by the Minister of Finance and the Economy and a relevant trade union in Iceland. All applications must be submitted electronically through the government's recruitment system.
