The Role of the Senior Data and Analytics Manager  

    Lead and manage a dynamic team of internal staff and external contractors, ensuring high performance and effective collaboration, with a strong focus on timely and successful project execution.

    Help to drive the strategic vision for the Data Analytics community and Data Hub, championing the adoption of modern engineering practices like Agile, devops, mlops, and automated data processes.

    Foster the development and implementation of reusable data products, creating efficient and scalable solutions that can be adapted to various business needs and ensuring a smooth transition from legacy systems.

    Leverage data and analytics to deliver tangible business value, applying strategic insights to support the Department’s objectives and initiatives.

    Cultivate a culture of continuous learning and improvement, encouraging the team to stay abreast of the latest technologies and best practices in data science and data engineering.

    Facilitate technical problem-solving sessions and whiteboarding sessions, promoting a culture of innovation and collaborative solution-finding.

    Serve as a role model in leadership and technical excellence, mentoring team members and fostering professional growth across the Data Analytics community.

The following qualifications, skills, and competencies required:

    Demonstrated experience in leading data & analytics teams and projects.

    Understanding of platforms and engineering best practices.

    Familiarity with modern data & analytics technologies, particularly open-source tooling (e.g. the Python PyData stack, R, SQL).

    Ability to leverage data & analytics for strategic business decision-making including policy formulation in a public sector setting.

    Commitment to driving innovation and efficiency in business processes through data & insights.

    Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, adept at explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical business stakeholders.

    Proficiency in writing and reporting, with a track record of producing clear, accurate, and professional publications.

    Strong dedication to upholding and promoting public service values, embodying integrity, and commitment in all actions.

    High level of self-motivation, coupled with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.

    A National Qualification Framework (NQF) qualification at level 8 in an analytical or numerate discipline (e.g. Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Social Sciences), or a combination of relevant certificate level qualifications and significant practical experience.

    A minimum of three years’ work experience.
