You will have substantial experience of working as a qualified psychologist within a service for adults with learning disabilities, with experience of supervising more junior staff, such as trainee psychologists, assistant psychologists and/or newly qualified psychologists. The psychology service is arranged and located in 3 inner London borough-based teams, Lewisham, Lambeth and Southwark, each one led by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, with each borough team managed by a Team Leader. Each borough team comprises Psychologists, Behavioural Support Specialists, Psychiatrists and CPNs. The 3 borough teams are based at the Maudsley Hospital, Denmark Hill Lambeth &Southwark teams and Brownhill Road, Catford Lewisham team. You will be part of a well-established group of 15 Psychologists and Behavioural Support Specialists, working across the 3 borough teams. There are several opportunities for working and developing initiatives with colleagues working in other boroughs, as well as within the wider Neurodevelopmental Service of which we are part. We provide core placements for Trainee Clinical Psychologists and there will be an expectation to supervise and contribute to teaching and training. The post is within the Southwark team to cover a secondment. You will be based and carry out most of your clinical work in your borough team, but there will be an expectation for you to help develop skills and knowledge within the wider department and service, for example, by leading on an area of specialist clinical work, undertaking supervision group and/or carrying out service development work across the 3 boroughs and wider MHLD service The service works in close partnership with health and social care professionals, with psychological interventions delivered as part of a multidisciplinary care plan. You will be expected to work directly and indirectly with people with learning disabilities, families, and carers to provide a range of high quality, evidence based collaborative assessments and interventions. You will be expected to carry out research and audits as part of your work, and to supervise more junior staff. We are looking for someone who can offer a dynamic and creative approach to service delivery, aimed at improving the lives of people with learning disabilities who have additional mental health needs and/or challenging behaviour, and who has an interest in being part of our MHLD service within SlaM. Across the 3 boroughs, we provide a range of psychological assessments and interventions for people with learning disabilities and their networks, with specialist expertise and interests across the service in systemic, neuropsychology, CAT, psychodynamic and positive behavioural support approaches. There are also opportunities to be involved in providing training and consultation to mainstream mental health services to assist in meeting the needs of people with learning disabilities. You will be expected to make use of regular CPD sessions within the Trust, as well as contribute to and/or lead special interest/supervision groups offered by psychologists within the service, aimed at further developing therapeutic skills and knowledge. We have close links with the Estia Centre and as we are part of a Clinical Academic Group within Kings Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre, research interests are encouraged.
