DTU Bioengineering is seeking to employ a scientific team leader who will be responsible for the continued development, organization, research management, and daily running of the molecular biology laboratory within Enzyme Discovery and Enzyme Technology in the Protein Chemistry and Enzyme Technology Section at the Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine at DTU. The molecular biology laboratory is an enzyme biotechnology pipeline which underpins the research work within enzyme discovery and enzyme technology, notably focusing on carbohydrate processing enzymes, at the Department. In this job, you will serve as a scientific team leader, laboratory lead, and contributor.

The job

Your main responsibility as Scientific Lab Team Lead is to ensure that all procedures are carried out to the highest possible standard. The job entails that you are proactively involved in introduction of and assessment of new experimental approaches, methods selection, development of protocols, and any new procedures in the enzyme biotechnology pipeline in close collaboration with co-workers and project leaders. The goal of the work is to provide innovative contributions to enzyme discovery and enzyme technology, and to help employ cutting-edge technologies to achieve this goal. You will oversee the work of others and work at the bench with cloning, expression, enzyme protein engineering, larger scale enzyme production, activity assessment, and biochemical characterization of enzymes in ongoing research projects. Other features of the job include: 

  • Participation in ongoing scientific projects, including participation in research meetings with both internal and external partners, as well as presentation of data and preparation of slides for such meetings.
  • Participation in recruitment, as well as supervision and training of students, PhD fellows, postdoc, visitors, and other staff in technologies and protocols used in the laboratory.
  • Helping with the training of students and new employees.

The position has direct reference to the Head of Section Protein Chemistry and Enzyme Technology, Prof. Anne S. Meyer.

Specific requirements:

  • Profound research experience within enzymology, notably within carbohydrate processing enzymes, with a relevant educational background, and strong expertise in molecular biology and enzyme biochemistry.
  • Practical experience with enzyme cloning and protein engineering, preferably in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic expression systems.
  • Documented experience with assay development and execution of enzyme assays.
  • Practical experience with Lab management within molecular biology.
  • Strong technical, organizational, interpersonal communication and management skills, and exceptional reliability.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both speaking and writing.

Salary and appointment terms

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). You are employed as an Academic Officer or Senior Officer with a leadership role. 

The position is a full-time, permanent position 37 h/week. Starting date September 1st 2024 or as soon as possible. The workplace is DTU Bioengineering at DTU Lyngby Campus.
