The SnT is seeking a Research Support Technician - GIS and Python Technician for Agricultural Pest Monitoring to support the research and development work within the SEDAN group.

Your role
We are working on a Proof of concept at the forefront of agricultural innovation. Our mission is to enhance sustainable farming practices and protect crops from pests using cutting-edge technology.
As a GIS and Python Technician, you will play a crucial role in our team, assisting in the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive database designed to track and analyze the spread of agricultural pests. Your work will support farmers and agronomists in making informed decisions to protect crops and enhance yield.
• Develop and maintain GIS-based databases for tracking pest populations
• Utilize Python scripts to automate data collection, processing, and analysis
• Assist in the integration of various data sources into a centralized database
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design and implement data visualization tools
• Conduct spatial analysis to identify pest hotspots and trends
• Ensure data accuracy and integrity through regular quality control checks
• Provide technical support and training to team members on GIS and Python applications
Your profile
The ideal candidate should have some knowledge and/or experience in one or several of the following areas:
• Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS)
• Strong programming skills in Python, including experience with libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and GeoPandas
• Familiarity with database management systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)
• Experience in spatial data analysis and visualization
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Bachelor's degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in the agricultural sector or related fields
• Knowledge of remote sensing and image analysis
• Familiarity with web-based GIS applications and tools
• Previous experience with pest monitoring or similar environmental data projects
Language Skills:
• Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required
• Knowledge of either French, German or Luxembourgish will be appreciated but are not a requirement to apply
