Research Engineer. Dublin. Irlanda

Gavin and Doherty Geosolutions (GDG) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Engineer to join our dynamic team working at the forefront of renewable energy projects. We are currently involved in several cutting-edge Research & Development (R&D) initiatives focused on offshore wind design, engineering, and Power-to-X (PtX) studies. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of innovative solutions and advanced frameworks to optimise offshore wind energy systems and reduce the Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE). This role will report to our the relevant department lead and will be based at our Dublin office. 

Role Description

As a Research Engineer, you will primarily be office-based, conducting research in one of the key areas including development of advanced numerical analysis tools for offshore wind, development of framework for layout optimisation, and integration of power to x systems for offshore wind. This will involve the use of programming languages such as Python, technical report writing, as well as client and stakeholder engagement. The role will also involve project management activities for a range of ongoing R&D projects, including technical and financial reporting to national and international funding agencies.

Expertise Required:

The ideal candidate will hold a technical background within engineering, having a master’s degree and have already secured PhD funding from the Irish Research Council (IRC).

Candidates should also be highly organised and motivated individuals with effective communication skills, a good work ethic, and a commitment to technical excellence, personal efficiency, and career progression through Continued Professional Development. Strong background in offshore wind energy systems, Power-to-X technologies, numerical analysis methods, and data analysis is beneficial.
