Do you want to make an international difference in infectious disease surveillance? To build national capacities in infectious disease surveillance using genomics and bioinformatics analysis to support the national public health reference laboratories in Europe facilitating a stronger genomic-based surveillance system?
The National Food Institute at DTU is looking for an ambitious project manager, preferably with a scientific background in natural science, e.g., microbiology, epidemiology to manage activities within ‘Genomic epidemiology and public health bioinformatics training in the EU/EEA, the Western Balkans, and Turkey.’ The Research Group for Global Capacity Building at DTU Food coordinates the project with Statens Serum Institut and four international partners based in other European countries. The project started in January 2023 and will continue for the next two years; thus, there is a need to strengthen staff capacity to meet the demand for project management and coordination of various project activities.
The Global Capacity Building Research Group at the National Food Institute holds responsibilities as a reference laboratory for antimicrobial resistance for EU, WHO, and FAO, which include being involved in international collaborative projects conducting capacity building in several countries.
The job
A vital part of the job is managing the project and keeping track of deliverables and milestones. Specifically, the responsibilities will include organizing activities, travel and meetings, support the partner teams and stakeholders, monitoring progress and risks, reporting progress incl. financial status to partners as well as to Contracting Authority and other stakeholders. The tasks will be supported by a financial assistant and also colleagues organised in teams will be involved in the project in relation to management, coordination and training.
Primary areas of responsibility:
- Administrative and logistics coordination including arranging meetings
- Organise meetings, workshops, training courses and exchange visits
- Quality management of the project including reporting, writing reports
- Communication with stakeholders e.g. through newsletters, presentations
- Keep track of deliverables and milestones including dissemination of results and output
- Ensure adherence to the planned timeframe / schedule
- To be the liaison between the partner institutes, Contracting Authority and other stakeholders
- Take part in management of the personnel involved in the project
- Engage with the financial management of the project

Additionally, you are accustomed to working in an international environment.
The necessary expertise encompasses:
- Documented experience with management of large international projects including organisation of meetings and travel
- Ideally, candidates should hold a project management certification, such as PRINCE2 or PMP
- Proven experience in quality management and proficiency in both oral and written reporting
- Documented knowledge within the area of natural science
- Able to self-manage and work independently as well as able to plan and conduct complex tasks, while having the ability to engage constructively in a large, international and cross-disciplinary environment.
- Excellent in English (C1 level), both orally and in writing
- Great communication skills

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. You are employed as a Senior Officer.
Working hours are 37 hours per week. The position is a 2-year employment, starting on 1 February 2025.
The workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus, Building 204, Henrik Dams Alle, 2800 Kgs. Lyngby.
