Applications are invited for a fulltime one-year postdoc position starting 1 January 2025, in the field of electrophysiology and molecular neurobiology at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University, Denmark.

 

Expected start date and duration of employment

This is a one–year position from 1 January 2025, or as soon possible thereafter.  

Job description

You will be part of an international and dynamic research group at Aarhus University studying link between O-GlcNAcylation dysfunction and intellectual disability.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and executing scientific projects
  • Establishment of neuronal primary cultures to be used in confocal microscopy experiments
  • Leading MEA electrophysiology experiments
  • Student training and supervision
  • Design and production of visual material for scientific communication

Your profile

Applicants should hold a PhD in Molecular Biology or similar. A previous postdoc employment, and extensive experience in the O-GlcNAc field is an advantage. 

Applicants should also have passed the Laboratory Animal Science EU function A/D test, and have experience in the following skills:

  • Laboratory techniques:
    • Brain dissection and primary cortical and hippocampal neuronal culture
    • siRNA design and work
    • Two-electrode voltage-clamp electrophysiology of channels in Xenopus laevis oocytes
    • Confocal microscopy and image analysis of neuronal cultures (synapses count, co-localization, etc.)
    • Molecular biology techniques (western blot, qPCR, immunofluorescence, etc.)
    • Synaptosome isolation
    • Mass-spec sample preparation
  • Soft skills: 
    • Project management
    • Student supervision
    • Ability for independent work
    • Inquisitive and creative

The DVA group, at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, is a multicultural and multidisciplinary research group leading in the research of OGT-CDG, a rare glycosylation disorder associated with mutation in the glycosyltransferase OGT.

Deadline

Applications must be received no later than 6 November 2024.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range

Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
