The Norwegian School of Sport Sciences (NSSS) is a specialized university and serves as the premier education and research institution of sport science in the Nordic countries. The Department of coaching and psychology has a vacant three-year postdoc fellowship in the field of sport coaching and learning in team ball sports. The predefined postdoc project will focus on athlete learning and development in team ball-sports.

This predefined project will use a longitudinal approach focusing on the uniqueness of the sport specific context to study athlete learning and development in team sports from a novel theoretical and methodological perspective. More specifically, the aim of the proposed project is to establish a cohort of players within a Scandinavian team ball sports that will be followed throughout adolescence and senior years to identify and compare different sport participation outcomes. This project will investigate and identify mechanisms driving sport participation and performance development. The research project will contribute to bridge the gap between research on determinants of sport participation, learning and performance development in youth team ball sport.

The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in sport science and demonstrate competence and experience in conducting research using advanced quantitative and qualitative methodology examining athlete development in youth sports. The project will include i.a.the development of a theoretical model to inform research and applied work on learning and performance development over the course of a participation career at different levels in team ball sport in Norway.

The predefined project will be under the supervision of Professor Lars Tore Ronglan and the candidate is expected to work in close collaboration with other colleagues within the Department of coaching and psychology, as well as researchers from Scandinavia and Canada. The PhDproject will lead to multiple publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals. The successful candidate must demonstrate competence in both oral and written English as well as in a Scandinavian language.

Additionally, the successful candidate will be involved in the planning, implementation and development  of  lectures  at  the bachelor and master levels within the Department of Coaching and Psychology at NSSS. Past experience with teaching theoretical lectures as well as sport activities at the university level is required to actively participate in and contribute to the academic community.

Competence requirements and selection processThe applicant must be qualified for a Postdoc fellowship position at NSSS (completed a PhD degree in sport sciences or related field). The position is especially relevant for candidates who recently completed a PhD degree in sport coaching and/or sport psychology or equivalent in a related field. We seek a determined and self-driven candidate with a strong interest in athlete learning and development in team ball- sports.The successful candidate should have knowledge and experience in conducting research as well as practical experience within the field of sport coaching in team ball sports.
