Are you interested in quantitative marine mammal acoustics and would you like to quantify parameters of echolocation clicks from deep diving toothed whales using hydrophone arrays? Then the Marine Bioacoustics lab at the Department of Biology invites you to apply for a 1.5 year post doc position to work within these research areas.

Expected start date and duration of employment

This is a 1.5 year funded position with a start date the 1/1/2025. There is the possibility of extending the employment to 2 years and 2 months pending additional funding.

Job description

  • You will be working primarily with design, calibration and use of a large aperture hydrophone array for quantification of toothed whale echolocation clicks.
  • You will also perform quantitative analysis of ambient noise.
  • You will also first author and hence draft peer-reviewed manuscripts based on the results.

Your profile

Applicants should hold a PhD in bioacoustics, physics or engineering.

  • Experience in quantitative acoustics, calibration, programming and signal processing is a must.
  • Marine field experience and boat handling skills are advantageous.
  • You must have demonstrated the capability to publish first author papers.
  • You must be proficient in spoken and written English.

The Marine Bioacoustics lab is a world leading research group that works with how marine mammals use sound for communication, foraging and navigation and how these processes are affected by anthropogenic noise.

Deadline

Application procedure

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range

Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
