Descripción de la oferta de trabajo:

The section for Autonomous Materials Discovery (AMD) at DTU Energy is looking for an outstanding candidate for a PhD scholarship within the field of in-silico materials design applied to discover new ways to optimize electrochemical reactions via tunable magnetism.

Responsibilities and qualifications

The successful candidate will break new ground in understanding of the complex multiphysics phenomena happening at the electrocatalytic interface under a magnetic field. The candidate will use AI-accelerated atomic-scale simulations, mainly in the framework of density functional theory, ab-initio molecular dynamics, and machine learning-classical potentials, to study the electrochemical response to external magnetic moments in Kagome Materials. The goal is to discover materials and tunable magnetic conditions able to reduce reaction overpotentials and increase the electrochemical activity for the oxygen evolution and reduction reactions. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of autonomous workflows for interfaces and to develop a data infrastructure. These implementations will be general and will be applied to core technologies of the department, e.g., batteries and catalysts. The project is funded by the PhD Alliance 2024 initiative at DTU, in collaboration with Cornell University, USA.

The AMD section is a leading group in combining multiscale modelling techniques, machine learning methods, and self-driving laboratories to accelerate the discovery of novel materials for energy applications. The candidate will work in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, which comprises, among others, experts with background in physics, chemistry, materials and computer science. The section comprises four PIs and approx. 25 between PhD students and postdocs.

The candidate will work in collaboration with multiple national and Horizon Europe projects, which include: “DE-centralised Cloud labs fOr inDustrialisation of Energy materials” (DECODE, aiming at the development of decentralized autonomous laboratories to discovery new green chemicals); and a recently established “Pioneer Center for Accelerating P2X Materials Discovery (CAPeX)” anchored at DTU Energy.

A successful candidate:

  • has good communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • can work independently and take responsibility for progress and quality of projects.
  • has a proven expertise in computational/theoretical physics, chemistry, materials science and related areas.
  • has proven expertise in materials modelling is required.

You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree  in physics, chemistry or engineering.

Approval and Enrolment

The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see DTU's rules for the PhD education

Assessment

The assessment of the applicants will be made by: Professor Ivano E. Castelli, and Head of Section, Professor Tejs Vegge.
