Intumescent Painting Installer required to work at PFP IRELAND, based Digital Office Centre, Block B Maynooth Bus Campus (W23 W5X7).
• Preparing site inspection and assessments to understand building’s structure. This
includes understanding the building’s structure, identifying areas that require protection, and assessing environmental conditions.
• Preparing surfaces to be coated including cleaning, sanding and abrasive blasting.
• Masking and protecting areas that do not require coating, such as windows, floors, or adjacent surfaces, are masked off with tape, plastic sheeting, or other protective
materials to prevent overspray.
• Mixing Intumescent paint which often come in two or more components that must be mixed thoroughly before application ensuring that correct ratios and consistency as per established by the manufacturer's specifications.
• Preparing all equipment, which includes spray guns, airless sprayers, or pressure pots, is set up and calibrated. The sprayer checks the nozzles, hoses, and pressure settings to ensure they are appropriate for the material and the surface.
• Calculating and determining the precise quantity of paint suitable for a specific surface and understanding the ratios to create the perfect blend.
• Ensuring that the primer is applied to the surface first to enhance adhesion of the
intumescent paint. The primer must be allowed to dry completely before the next layer is applied.
• Spraying intumescent paint which includes paint in thins, even coats as specified by the fire safety standards and building regulations.
• Ensuring that the curing time is allowed to cure or dry thoroughly before applying
subsequent layers. This curing process can vary based on environmental conditions and the specific product used.
• Conducting final inspections to ensure that the dry film thickness is measured using specialized tools such as ultrasonic thickness gauges. This ensures that the coating meets the specified fire rating requirements.
• Performing adhesion tests to ensure the coating adheres properly to the substrate.
• Cleaning all equipment according to the manufacturer's recommendations to prevent the intumescent paint from hardening within the equipment.
• Ensuring that the work area is cleaned up by removing any protective masking and
disposing of waste materials properly.
• Providing detailed records of the products used, the areas coated, and the thickness measurements. This documentation is often required for building inspections and future maintenance.
• Conducting final inspections carried out by a fire safety officer or building inspector to ensure that all fire protection requirements are met.
• Handing over the completed work is handed over to the client, along with all necessary documentation, certifications, and maintenance recommendations.
