POSITION SUMMARY Glenmark’s research strategy for innovative medicines is based on human translational sciences. Qualified research projects aim at addressing mechanisms underlying unmet medical needs. The development of such projects from discovery research through the approval by regulatory authorities is guided by distinct stage gating criteria based on translational evidence. The primary role of the incumbent is to develop a coherent translational science strategy for Glenmark’s innovative medicine portfolio and to support ongoing projects in the implementation of such strategies. The incumbent will be accountable for the definition and application of stage gating criteria and pre-clinical milestones to inform decision-making across all NCE and NBE research. Furthermore, she/he works together closely with clinical development to support planned or ongoing clinical trials in terms translational strategies. The successful candidate will be able to advise R&D research teams with translational strategies and to establish and maintain highly functional interfaces with clinical sciences and development teams. The candidate is able to establish external collaborative partnerships in the relevant research ecosystems and to negotiate and close collaborative deals related to project goals. This global research management position will report into the CSO of the company. RESPONSIBILITIES Implement coherent and company-wide metrics of stage gating milestones for NCE and NBE research based on human translational medicine evidence. Provide overall guidance to research project teams in the area of translational sciences and medicine. Strengthen and maintain functional interfaces between pre-clinical and clinical sciences departments in support of “end-to-end” strategies. Establish effective and sustainable external collaboration networks with top-level physician scientists and medical centers in support of our core strategies in immune-oncology, respiratory and dermatology. Develop a strategy for combination therapies in immune-oncology to maximize Glenmark’s assets in oncology. Lead the company’s new strategic initiative in implementing innovative NCE programs in immune-oncology. Identify collaborative opportunities in translational science consistent with the strategic focus of internal discovery therapeutics. Conduct scientific intelligence analyses in support of sustained and competitive research. Contribute to business development projects in innovative medicine and participate in due diligence projects. Represent Glenmark research at high-level scientific conferences. Perform other relevant duties as required. REQUIREMENTS PhD or M.D./PhD with post-doctoral experience and publication track record in life science disciplines, preferably in immuno-cancer research and immunotherapies directed to treat autoimmune or chronic inflammatory diseases Total of at least 15 years relevant experience in either life sciences industry, biotech or biomedical research including 5+ years specifically in either oncology, immunology or translational sciences Exposure to respiratory, dermatology, oncology and inflammation therapeutic areas Strong business acumen and business development skills Demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically Knowledge of clinical, regulatory and pharmaceutical product development standards Demonstrated skills and experience in organization, communication, teamwork and leadership Superior skills in networking, influencing, and negotiation Ability to work independently and with a strong sense of problem analysis/solving, anticipation and proactivity Fluent in spoken and written English; language skills in French and/or German are of advantage
