Annualised Hours (average of 35 hours per week) 3 Year Fixed Term Contract Starting Salary (Year 1): £6,517 per annum Democracy – it’s the heart and soul of the way of life enjoyed by citizens of a free state. Its literal meaning is “rule of the people” – and you could add “by the people”. From the grass roots level of a village’s Parish Council, through district and Borough Council, County Council and all the way to the top flight of Government, nothing works without democracy and the democratic process. You could be a part of the democratic process at the heart of local decision making. As the Democratic Services Apprentice you will provide assistance to the Council’s governance arrangements by supporting various committees and team based projects; and also support to the Electoral Services team. The post holder will have the opportunity to develop a sound understanding of the local government democratic process as well as developing the necessary skills to provide administrative support to the council’s committees, scrutiny function and other officer/councillor groups. The successful candidate will studytowards a level 2 Business & Administration apprenticeship (subject to available funding) followed by the Association of Democratic Services Officers Certificate Qualification Applicants will need to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively at all levels and must have strong written and spoken communication skills. You will be enthusiastic, conscientious and self motivated, have good organisational skills, an excellent telephone manner and the ability to plan and prioritise effectively to meet deadlines. Previous experience in an office environment would be advantageous but not essential as you should be willing to undertake regular training/development activities. A flexible approach to working hours is required to fulfil this 35 hour contract, working Monday to Friday each week. You will occasionally be required to attend evening meetings for which time off in lieu may be taken. Pay after the first 12 months of this apprenticeship will range from £14,423 to £18,848 dependent upon achievement of qualification and experience.
