The academic position

The associate or assistant professor will be appointed at the Research Unit of Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacy and Environmental Medicine at the Department of Public Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, SDU.

Other areas include endocrine disruption, human biomonitoring, analytical chemistry, toxicology, and risk assessment. The department has a long tradition in environmental chemicals or biomarkers as well as in the development of analytical chemical methods to measure these. Currently, Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) are the main areas of focus, both the adverse health effects of exposure, biomonitoring and advising national and international authorities and high exposed individuals. The successful applicant will not necessary be expected to have these main areas of interests but to have a strong background in environmental medicine and to be able to bring new areas of environmental research to the department.

The Research Unit of Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacy and Environmental Medicine (CPPEM) perform translations research e.g. pharmacological epidemiology, clinical studies and cell-based basic pharmacology. Collectively, CPPEM has a strong background in exposure to environmental chemicals, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacogenetics, pharmacokinetics, drug-drug interactions and therapeutic drug monitoring and the successful applicant will master translation from laboratory research to humans.

Areas of responsibility

The successful applicant will be expected to initiate, supervise and conduct environmental research, to have innovative ideas and to set the framework for excellent research.

Preferably, the applicant will be able to perform translational research or have an open mindset to combine the wide number of research methodologies implemented at the unit and to act as a bridge for future collaborations. The applicant has a PhD, a strong scientific profile and have demonstrated independent research experience related to the fields of environmental medicine. In addition, an associate professor will be expected to have documented experience in conducting and managing research projects and attracting research funding. Additionally, the associate or assistant professor must teach and mentor junior faculty, postdocs, PhD students, and undergraduate students at the Faculty of Health Sciences, as well as maintain and develop national and international contacts and secure funding. Moreover, profiling this research area in the public eye will be an important task.

The translational pharmacology research group cohabits with and has close collaboration with the pharmacoepidemiology and environmental medicine groups within the research unit. Additionally, it collaborates with pharmacology at Odense University Hospital. Collectively, it is part of Denmark’s largest center for research, teaching and clinical service in pharmacology.

The research unit teaches at four study programs: Medicine, Pharmacy, Clinical Biomechanics and Biomedicine. It produces approximately 100 international peer-reviewed publications per year.
