The Role The Grid Control team within Asset Operations is responsible for 24 hour monitoring and operating the Gas Networks Ireland Transmission networks, including preparation for and coordination of emergency response. Reporting to the Grid Control Manager, this position involves providing technical support to the Grid Control function in terms of general Network Operations, SCADA operation, GTMS, use of Maximo, Netpoint, SafePermit. Responsibilities: Engineering support to the Grid Control function for day-to-day operations, in particular the following areas; safe and effective monitoring/operation of the gas network; efficient load management to ensure supply/demand balance; physical and commercial operation of the gas network; utilisation of SCADA and GTMS for system planning and system performance; liaison with KAMs, Shippers, CSOs, and other system stakeholders where necessary. Verification and issue of monthly meter data cleansing figures. Reviewing configuration of alarms on SCADA against EEMUA configuration guidelines. Checking consistency of alarm limits and priorities on similar alarm types between regions, pipelines and AGIs. Monitor and analyse unaccounted for gas (UAG), shrinkage and balancing gas. Acting as the Business Continuity Coordinator for Grid Control including testing the deployment to the emergency control room. Development of emergency exercises in conjunction with the Natural Gas Emergency Plan (NGEP) and National Gas Emergency Manager (NGEM). Engagement with the relevant external stakeholders in relation emergency planning including CER, County Councils, emergency services and contractors as required. Produce reports and resolve queries through the use of GTMS, SCADA and other relevant software. Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota for Grid Control as required. Other duties as maybe assigned from time to time. Requirements for the role: Degree in Engineering level 8 or equivalent. Minimum 3 years engineering experience within a Utility. Ability to work as part of Grid Control Team and implement continual improvement where and when required. Strong report writing and document preparation skills.
