A traineeship gives you the opportunity to gain a professional qualification while learning both on and off-the-job, which means trainees learn the right mix of skills, abilities and knowledge. To assist in the provision of competent health and safety advice, assistance, training and audit to all Council Services. During their work and training, both in-house and in their course study, the trainee shall be expected to develop the skills, personal attributes, knowledge and understanding necessary to carry out the role of a Health and Safety Adviser. This will include the interpretation of health and safety legislation in to plain English format, accident investigation, general health and safety enquiries, being part of health and safety improvement projects, attending and taking an active part in health and safety committees/forums and developing the necessary skills to deliver health and safety training to a wide range of audiences. Fife Council pays the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate to employees earning less than £8.33 per hour. If the hourly rate of pay for the post is less than the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate a supplement will be paid. Requirements These vacancies are restricted to applicants who currently live in Fife. You must also be aged between 16 and 24 as at the interview date. During your Traineeship you will be expected to undertake a NEBOSH National General Certificate and a NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) which will be up to NVQ 10. The Trainee will therefore be required to commit to a rigorous training programme and on the job training spanning the 3 years of this Traineeship. This will be both challenging and rewarding and requires maturity and dedication to fulfil the expectations. Responsibilities This will include the interpretation of health and safety legislation in to plain English format, accident investigation, general health and safety enquiries, being part of health and safety improvement projects, attending and taking an active part in health and safety committees/forums and developing the necessary skills to deliver health and safety training to a wide range of audiences, conducting health and safety audits etc. During the Traineeship you will be shadowing a range of different colleagues in various health and safety work environments i.e. Offices, Construction, Transportation, Health and Social Care, Education and Children’s Services, Housing Services, Parks Streets and Open Spaces etc. At the end of the Traineeship you will have a broad range of health and safety experiences plus 3 years comprehensive practical experience. The Individual You will be enthusiastic, have good communication skills, good IT and report writing skills together with Minimum of 3 standard grades, Intermediate 2 or equivalent plus a minimum of 2 Higher, Advanced Higher or equivalent qualifications, one must be English.
