Acute General Medicine ⋐-speciality experience We currently have exciting opportunities for highly motivated doctors with specialty interests to join us at Bronglais Hospital in the beautiful seaside town of Aberystwyth. The vacancies are within our General Medicine department, working alongside colleagues in Care of the Elderly, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Cardiology and Oncology, taking part in the Middle Grade Rota and supported by junior doctors. Each post will rotate through four sub-specialities for a period of six months each. The sub-specialities are Care of the Elderly including stroke, movement disorder, surgical geriatrics and osteoporosis, Respiratory, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Acute Medicine including A&E, Oncology and Palliative Care. Applications are invited for the above posts for a period of 2 years with a view to this being made permanent if desired and subject to satisfactory review. The broad sub-speciality training will allow motivated appointees to be supported in progressing to a CCST through Article 14. These novel posts are a key part of the strategic plan for providing safe, high quality and sustainable services to the population of Mid Wales. The salary offered is on Health Board Registrar pay scales £30,302 to £47,647 or if more experienced Specialty Doctor pay scales £37,547 to £70,018 pa. In addition, these full time posts form part of the on-call Middle Grade rota, attract additional sessions or appropriate banding for full shift pattern rota which we are recruiting to be 1:11. The successful candidates will get experience in all the above areas and the job description can be tailored to meet the individual’s needs for development. To be appointed as a Specialty Doctor, applicants must possess full registration with the GMC and should have completed at least four years full time postgraduate training at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a FTSTA in a relevant specialty, or the candidate should have equivalent experience and competencies. Full MRCP is desirable See person spec for more details. Suitable applicants will be at least at level of expertise required for sitting PACES component of MRCP with evidence of prior NHS experience. This post is suitable for those who would like to develop their careers either as a Non Consultant Career Grade within a medical sub-speciality or who wish to consolidate their experience before moving on to other senior roles. We have PACES examiners within our Health Board and you will enjoy excellent working conditions including Postgraduate Medical Education Centre. Bronglais General Hospital provides a broad range of services in General Medicine including Rheumatology and Palliative Care, General Surgery with a special interest in Colorectal Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Trauma and Orthopaedics. The Anaesthetic and Critical Care Team interface with all specialties and provide a state of the art ITU service. Bronglais General Hospital is a 165 bed acute hospital that currently serves a core population of 125,000 in a geographically large and sparsely populated area. The summertime population approximately doubles due to the influx of holidaymakers and there are also a large number of university students based in Aberystwyth. Furthermore, approximately 70,000 permanent residents live in areas equidistant from Bronglais and other acute care sites, in areas to which enhanced outreach is planned as part of future development of services.
