The Aerodynamic Design section (AER) at DTU Wind Energy is looking for an expert in Multidisciplinary Design, Analysis and Optimization (MDAO) to join the team around HAWTOpt2 (an MDAO design tool for wind turbine blades) and contribute to the development and application as a research, analysis and design tool. AER focuses on aerodynamic and aero-acoustic modeling and experimental research for airfoil, blade design and optimization, and implements the research in cooperation with industry, in software tools and in courses. The research includes CFD and fluid-structure coupling for aeroelastic design of wind turbines in wind farms including effects from wakes and terrain, experimental investigations in wind tunnels and full-scale and aerodynamic noise modeling. Responsibilities and tasks The candidate should have a strong background in wind turbine aerodynamics and experience in structural engineering and programming. This includes experience using Blade Element Momentum (BEM) models, Vortex Dynamic (VD) models and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models. Prior programming experience in Python, OpenMDAO and Linux based clusters is prioritized, as well as experience in higher fidelity structural models like nonlinear beam, shell and solid FEM models, and anisotropic cross section analysis. Furthermore experience in multi-fidelity optimization and robust optimization is also an asset. You will participate in a number of national and international research projects and contribute to the management and generation of new projects. There are also good opportunities for developing innovative ideas in the direction of commercial products. The research aims at implementation in the industry in both short and long term, and is performed in collaboration with the industry, as well as other Danish and foreign research institutions. The research will be in collaboration with other sections within the department and with other departments within DTU. Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. The candidate will work with the team on national and international projects, applying and developing the optimization complex including the coupling to other codes, as well as the surrounding pre- and post-processing tools.
