Come join the team that will solve one of the biggest challenges of wind power today The Department of Wind Energy at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Wind Energy) is seeking one or two postdoctoral researchers working with grid integration and control of offshore wind power. You will be part of the international team carrying out research in wind power integration and control, where the working language is English. DTU Wind Energy is a mission driven university department with a vision to be the preferred university partner for the global wind energy sector. The department creates value for society through integration of research with education, innovation and research-based consultancy within key fields central to the development and use of wind energy. The position will be in the Section for Integration and Planning (INP). Research in INP is oriented towards issues that are relevant for industrial development and applications, and we work in projects with system integration, control concepts for wind turbines, wind power plants, electrical components, grid connection and large-scale wind energy penetration. Responsibilities and tasks Offshore wind power is now developing rapidly in Northern Europe. So far, the offshore wind power development has mainly taken place in the North Sea Region but offshore wind energy has a significant potential in other places as well. In order to accommodate the full potential of Europe’s offshore wind power resources, network infrastructures are required, linking offshore wind power hubs and onshore grids in different countries. The HVDC technology is applied for offshore interconnectors between countries and recently also for grid connection of clusters of offshore wind power plants which are located far from the land. At the same time, the increased requirements for grid integration of wind power technology (onshore and offshore) are pushing towards the development of experimental facilities used for validation of new electrical design and control technologies, for both AC and DC connections. The postdoc will work with grid integration of offshore wind power •Offshore wind via HVDC technology, both using voltage-source-converters (VSC) and diode-rectifier units (DRU) •Advanced testing of wind turbines with grid emulators •Wind turbine converter control and electrical design The postdoc is also expected to contribute to the development of converter based laboratory setup aimed at facilitating R&D on grid integration of offshore wind power. Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Further qualifications Candidates should have excellent knowledge of: •wind power technology •wind turbine converter control •grid codes (AC and DC) •RMS and/or EMT simulations of wind turbine converters and HVDC links Successful candidates are expected to have documented experience with converter based experimental systems. Prior experience with harmonization/standardization work will be appreciated.
