The Department of Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is looking to hire a postdoc within the section for structural engineering. The chosen applicant will be working in the area of rigid-plastic modeling and deformation capacity for precast concrete structures. The position and the project is a part of a Grand Solutions Project partially funded by Innovation Fund Denmark. The overall objective of the Grand Solutions Project is to develop numerical tools based on finite element limit analysis for design and optimization of reinforced concrete structures - and in particular complex precast concrete structures. A major challenge in this context is to develop numerical tools, which provide optimal solutions as well as information about the extent of plastic deformations in the structure at the collapse load. Responsibilities and tasks The successful candidate will internally as well as externally collaborate with project partners and in particular coordinate with the work being carried out by a second postdoc working on numerical implementations. The candidate will focus on investigations related to the deformation capacity of precast concrete structures. The knowledge of the deformation capacity is needed in order to evaluate the reliability of the numerical solutions. Following is a specific list of tasks: •Study and modelling of the behavior and ductility of typical structural joints in precast concrete structures •Identification of critical joint details and conduct experiments on component level to validate models of deformation capacity •Design and perform full-scale testing of structural systems (e.g. multistory shear walls) to validate numerical models •Supervising of relevant Bsc and Msc projects Qualifications The candidate should have a M.Sc. degree in structural engineering with specialization in modeling and test of reinforced concrete structures and additionally hold a PhD in concrete plasticity or, alternatively, have demonstrated research activities qualified for a PhD in this topic. A strong background in modern experimental mechanics and specialized knowledge in modelling of structural connections for precast structures are required. The candidate is expected to be self-motivated, curious, capable of independent thinking, and interested in sharing products with fellow researchers.
