Post Doc Whole genome sequencingof migraine Danish Headache Center is a center of excellence as part of CopenhagenUniversity Hospital. The main aim of Danish Headache Centre, probably theleading headache center in the world, is treating patients with headachedisorders and investigating the etiopathology of headaches. The Centre has 8vigorous research groups, including the molecular genetics group (mgDHC) leadby dr. Thomas Folkmann Hansen. The group aims to identify genomic risk variantsand other omics risk factors for migraine. The group has close collaboration ofgenetics, bioinformatics, statistics, and medicine (neurology); a professor inneurology, a research leader, a lead Bioinformatics Scientist, three Ph.D.students (MD and MSc), and master and bachelor students (both MD and MSc). Thegroup collaborates closely with both international and national research groups Project There are three existing datasetsinvolving Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data: 1) Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS)of parent-offspring trios with at least one migraine patient (n>400), 2) WGSof an autosomal dominant inherited form of migraine called hemiplegic migraine(n>100) and 3) temporal RNA-sequencing data from migraine samples (duringand outside attacks). Besides NGS data, there is GWAS, metabolomics, and extended phenotype data available forintegrative analysis. Regarding the GWAS data, we have several cohorts withinformation on headache; a clinically assessed migraine cohort with extendedphenotypes (n>2.000), a family cohort (n> 3.000), a population cohort ofblood donors (n>50.000), and a so called iPSYCH cohort (n=85.000). We areworking in a cluster environment (Computerome) primarily using R and Bash. We are now seeking a scientistwith a PhD or equivalent to take on the analysis of primarily the WGS-data, butalso to assist in the analyses of RNA-Seq and GWAS data. Qualifications The successful applicant:
holds a doctoral degree or equivalent qualification in computer science, statistics, bioinformatics with interest in biology/migraine, or a degree in biological science with experience in computational and statistical work.
has experience with the statistical interpretation and analysis of large (omic) datasets, preferably WGS data.
has experience in communicating results at scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed publications.
is qualified in programming and/or qualified in scripting languages and statistical data analysis tools (e.g. linux/bash, python, perl, R).
is able to work independently, set clear research goals and work in an interdisciplinary setting
has excellent communication skills in English (Danish is not a requirement).
Practical information The appointment will be based on the collectiveagreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowancewill be agreed with the relevant union. Starting date is preferably September 1st 2017 or as soon as possible.
