Irish Pressings has a vacancy for a Mechanical Automation and Maintenance Fitter Apprentice. This will be a four year apprenticeship programme in conjunction with SOLAS. This will include both on the job and off the job training. The work of the Mechanical Automation and Maintenance Fitter involves plant and machinery installation, maintenance and repair, replacement of broken or worn parts, adjustment and servicing. The work also involves fabrication of replacement parts using machine tools i.e. lathes, milling machines, grinders etc. Components may have to be repaired or fabricated using welding, brazing, riveting and soldering techniques. The role will involve working with machines and processes that involve integration of computer, electronic and programmable control systems with mechanical/hydraulic, pneumatic systems e.g. PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), CNC (Computer Numerical Control), Robots and CIM (Computer Integrated Manufacturing). Duties will include preventive maintenance on machinery and equipment as well as responding to emergency machine breakdowns. Duties and Responsibilities: To aid the maintenance department in the maintenance and repair of plant and equipment, Learn the use and operation of equipment required in the maintenance of in-house machinery and equipment, using tools and operating machinery, Being responsible for controlling or adjusting equipment, Using tools or machinery to restore/repair/fabricate parts and Working with control systems Skills Required: Must also be able to work on their own initiative, Accuracy with numbers- counting, measuring and arithmetic, Ability to carry out small and detailed tasks, Good practical skills , Ability to show accuracy and attention to detail in work, Being physically active and ability to be on your feet all day, Ability to work as part of a team and also work independently, Good hand-eye coordination with an interest and an aptitude for engineering and practical work
