We are looking to recruit enthusiastic doctors who are keen to develop and be part of Team QEH. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic and forward thinking General Surgery Department. The team consists of 12 consultants, 1 associate specialist and 11 middle grades. This post offers the opportunity to develop skills across the department and you will be able to support Theatres which will give you valuable experience for your log book. We offer expertise in the fields of Upper GI/Biliary, Colorectal, Breast, Endocrine, along with advanced upper and lower GI laparoscopic surgery. In addition to the 7 newly refurbished operating theatres in the main theatre area there is a very busy day surgery centre with a further 4 fully equipped theatres. We also have 24-hour emergency cover supported by a surgical assessment unit. Our Urology department has 5 consultants, 2 staff grades and 4 specialist nurses. We offer a wide range of procedures including ESWL, Urodynamics and one stop clinics; inpatient open and endoscopic urology. We are at the forefront of developing day case surgery including prostate and bladder resections and laser stone day case surgery. To provide this service there is a consultant delivered 24-hour emergency cover supported by interaction with the surgical assessment unit. Our Emergency Department provides care for around 50,000 new patients each year and we are a Type 1 trauma unit. We currently have 4 consultants, 8 middle grades and 8 SHO level doctors. We see a wide spectrum of medical and surgical emergencies as you would expect in a DGH and are focused on delivering high quality care efficiently. Weekly teaching ensures regular training opportunities for all junior staff and the consultant team is always available to support career development. We provide services to north-west Norfolk and the surrounding areas, and serve a population of around 220,000, which is steadily increasing. Due to our location and surrounding beautiful beaches and countryside our population increases substantially during the spring and summer months. There are convenient rail-links to Cambridge and London and direct road links to Norwich, the Midlands and Cambridge. Although this is not a teaching post, this rotation offers full teaching and training opportunities, and you will have full access to in-house training and education. Each post holder will be allocated an educational supervisor to oversee their development and career. They will also be helped and encouraged to perform audit projects and participate in research.
