Seaborg Technologies is hiring a talented engineer with expertise in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to further Seaborg’s CMSR design efforts. The successful candidate will be part of Seaborg’s Analysis team and will play a key role in the development of the CMSR design through advanced CFD simulations. The work will be carried out in accordance with both internal and external QA compliance. The role will entail working with a wide range of stakeholders including our design and engineering teams.
The successful applicant must be able to perform assigned tasks thoroughly to completion with a high attention to details with limited supervision.
Plan and perform benchmarking and validation to support code qualification and methodology development.
Apply CFD simulations to verify CMSR design requirements.
Technical liaison between reactor core transient simulation (multi-physics) team and engineering teams.
Develop and define testing methods and strategies, in compliance with relevant quality assurance systems, for ensuring the correct behavior of the CMSR under operational and accidental loads.
Support the engineering and design departments with thermal hydraulic analysis.
Play a key role in the design of molten salt flow loops and other experimental set-ups.
Perform thermal-hydraulic analysis using analytical models and CFD tools to support and verify the development of CMSR.
Perform steady-state and transient CFD simulations using ideal and real-fluid equations of state.
Perform safety analysis calculations using commercial simulation tools.
Support, develop and validate analysis methodologies to support safety analysis of transient and postulated accident scenarios.
Prepare recommendations for design teams.
Interact with other disciplines such as structural engineering specialists to allow effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems.
Independent planning of own work in accordance with deliverables and deadlines.
Prepare high-quality technical reports and design criteria to support the CMSR development.
Review technical work from other team members.
MINIMUM COMPETENCES AND QUALITIES
Master’s degree in relevant engineering field.
Several years prior relevant experience working with CFD analysis.
Strong fundamentals of compressible and in-compressible fluid mechanics with a solid grounding in the theoretical background.
Demonstrated experience with setup, execution, and post-processing (geometry, mesh generation, and model selection) using commercial grade CFD software such as Ansys Fluent/CFX or Siemens Star CCM+.
Strong knowledge of hydrodynamic analytical models for validation and improvements of higher fidelity numerical models.
Experience with thermal and heat transfer modeling.
Fluency in one or more coding languages (Python preferred).
Ability to clearly and efficiently communicate advanced technical results and recommendations to a wide range of stakeholders.
DESIRED COMPETENCES AND QUALITIES
Previous experience with nuclear applications.
Previous experience with nuclear transient analysis, preferably in molten salt reactor context.
Previous experience with project planning.
Experience with the CFD software suite OpenFOAM.
Experience with structural analysis and structural coupling.
A strong flare for detail and analysis. You are a finisher who can work and plan independently.
Team player able to interact with, listen to, and understand specialists and managers in a wide variety of technical disciplines. Seaborg’s success depends on our ability to work together.
Willingness and patience to, from time to time, train younger engineers and interns in relevant technical skills.
