About The Facility Internationally renowned for clinical excellence, The Portland Hospital is the UK's only private hospital dedicated to the care of women and children. We understand the sensitivity in seeking treatment for one of the complexities of women's health. Treatment within Women's Health is one of the most rapidly advancing technological areas of medicine. In keeping with this much of the treatment offered utilises minimally invasive techniques which can often result in a shorter inpatient stay and recovery period. We are now expanding our Women's Surgical Services with a state of the art 12 bedded inpatient Surgical and HDU ward to enable us to provide complex surgical services to Breast and Gynaecological patients. Job Description The Staff Nurse will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate highest standards of nursing for all patients between the High Dependency and Surgical Ward working within a team of staff enabling the provision of a high quality woman centred surgical service. Salary between £31,630 and £35,822 plus HCA benefits Working hours 37.5 per week Duties & Responsibilities * Communicate effectively within the multi-disciplinary team. * Follow recommended protocols for the care and management of women undergoing surgery, including care within a High Dependency setting. * Take daily responsibility to ensure that the clinical area works within management controls and provides consistently high quality care within given budgets and resources. * Assist the Ward Sisters and senior staff nurses to support the implementation of new initiatives within the Women's Health Service and to represent the service in their absence. * Communicate with consultants and organise the transfer/discharge of patients from the High Dependency Unit to the ward or home as appropriate. * Assist on referrals to other clinical groups within the Hospital and to external groups. * Work with junior staff / health care assistant / students and delegate and supervise care in a fair and equitable manner. * Recognise the signs and symptoms of a deteriorating patient and initiate early interventions in a calm and co-ordinated manner. Provide support in emergency situations and carry out evaluation of care post emergency care situations. * Provide support to other clinical areas/ departments with regards the needs of the critically ill patient/ acting as resource for ward areas if appropriate. * Take responsibility for ensuring own nursing practice reflects evidence-based practice and have an up to date knowledge of the current protocols, guidelines and policies in place within women's services. * Ensure that appropriate nursing procedures are implemented in accordance to HCA nursing policies and competency frameworks, NMC and National Guidelines. * Respect and ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times. * Provide advice and information to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to women in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team to facilitate patient centred care. * Work autonomously within guidelines and the sphere of professional practice. * Maintain effective communication and working relationships with both internal and external customers and health care professionals. Skills & Experience * Diploma/Degree in Nursing * NMC registered * ILS (desirable) * Demonstrate commitment to seamless and consistent high quality care and services * Demonstrate commitment to personal and professional training and development * A willingness to participate in the care of patients undergoing Termination of Pregnancy About The Individual You will have the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients and their families while maintaining a pleasant and positive demeanour at all times.
