SPECIALITY DOCTORS IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE WILLIAM HARVEY HOSPITAL, ASHFORD &QUEEN ELIZABETH, THE QUEEN MOTHER HOSPITAL, MARGATE We are looking for ambitious forward-looking Specialty Doctors who have at least two years’ experience in Emergency Medicine to join our expanding multi-disciplinary team. In conjunction with our existing senior doctors we have developed ten person rotas for each department, which will enable two Speciality Doctors to be on shift together on the night shift. We are committed to actively supporting our Speciality Doctors to go on to higher specialist training programmes or Consultant posts via Article 14. Due to our expanding Consultant numbers including a MCEM examiner, Consultant in EM with a joint CCT in ITU and with a further two in the process of becoming FCEM examiners we have implemented a weekly cross site Speciality Doctor educational and development programme. The Speciality Doctor Development Programme provides Speciality Doctors who wish to transition into Consultant posts with a dedicated consultant supervisor, clinical skills gap analysis, coaching and mentoring, together with opportunities to take on leadership and managerial roles within the Department. It will also be possible to provide specific three month secondments in Anaesthetics/ITU and Paediatrics to address educational and competency needs and help expedite career progression. We are committed to the highest standards of clinical care and proud of our Clinical Governance Programme, which includes a monthly Morbidity &Mortality reviews and a Patient Safety and Governance meeting. In addition, we are excited to be phasing in a paperless electronic patient record system across the Trust as of September 2014, which will provide all clinical staff with a personal remote device. The Trust is one of the largest in the country, employing 8000 staff. The Trust serves a population of over 720,000 with an annual operating budget of £500m. We provide services on 3 acute sites at: William Harvey Hospital Ashford Kent and Canterbury Hospital, Canterbury Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital Margate In addition there are two supporting hospitals at Dover and at Folkestone. Emergency Medicine Emergency services are at the heart of the Trust services. We are continuing to invest significantly in medical, nursing and support staffing levels; recognising the considerable growth in activity, most notably over the last 5 years. The Trusts emerging clinical strategy includes identifying further investment, which will include moving to a consultant delivered service with 20 Emergency Medicine Consultants over the next 3/5 year years, supported by a multidisciplinary team. All sites have helipads to receive and transfer critically ill patients, with The William Harvey Hospital has been awarded interim Trauma Unit status and is the Kent provider of the primary PCI service. The Division is committed to investing further in the facilities and estates that support the delivery of the service on all sites.
