Royal Brompton Hospital/Harefield Hospital Department: Microbiology Job Title: Microbiology Biomedical Scientist Band 6: £31,878 to £42,046 p.a. all inclusive Ref: 312-RB-C-5827 Full-time Permanent The Royal Brompton &Harefield NHS Foundation Trust is the largest heart and lung centre in the UK and among the largest in Europe. We are a partnership of two specialist hospitals which are known throughout the world for our expertise, standard of care and research success. The Microbiology Laboratory Service for both the Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals is a centralised service on the Royal Brompton site. The department is CPA accredited and awaiting confirmation of UKAS ISO15189 accreditation. It is also approved by the HCPC/IBMS for training. It offers a wide range of specialist bacteriology, virology and fungal diagnostics including cystic fibrosis and transplant bacteriology, mycobacteriology identification and susceptibility testing, molecular PCR assays and serology assays. Current laboratory equipment includes a Bactec FX for blood cultures, Bactec MGIT for Mycobacteria cultures, Bruker MALDI-ToF, Biomerieux EasyMag PCR extraction platform, Applied Biosystems 7500 Fast Real-time PCR amplification analysers, a Biomerieux VIDAS serology analyser and the Bio-Rad Evolis serology analyser. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to fill a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist position. Applicants will need to be HCPC registered, qualified to MSc level in Biomedical Science, and have at least 3 years post specialist registration experience in microbiology. They will need to possess specialist diagnostic bacteriology and mycology knowledge and skills, including some experience of molecular diagnostics, automated technology and virology/serology assays. The successful applicant will also need to have experience of quality assurance systems including laboratory audit. The successful applicant will need to be a team player with excellent communication, organisational, time management and interpersonal skills The department provides good opportunities for CPD and ongoing education and training relevant to the job role will be actively supported. Hours of contracted work will be 37.5 hrs full-time with attendance required Monday-Friday and contracted hours will also include covering our 8am-8pm extended working day and rostered Saturdays, Sundays and on-call and Bank Holidays.
