Applications are invited for the positions of Research Fellow at the Advanced Technology Institute. The positions involve a range of activities to conduct research into the production of large area electronic devices based on organic materials including organic-inorganic hybrid materials. We will tailor nano-scale structure for macroscopic functionality in devices to help optimise the production and manufacture of the devices and systems. The project is funded by an on-going European Union Horizon 2020 programme, CORNET (www.cornet-project.eu). The aim of the CORNET project is to create an effective Open Innovation Environment to develop manufacturing within the EU that will combine smart materials for development of capability in organic electronic devices using modelling and sustainable development methodologies. In particular, the applicants will be involved in the experimental development of small area OPV, perovskite PVs, and OLEDS, supported by computational modelling optimization, with an aim of knowledge transfer to large area Roll-2-Roll manufacturing technology. You will be expected to collate and report on the work in a way accessible to both academic and technical, and non-specialist audiences, with a view to develop the research towards the project goals. You are also expected to help support existing activities and PhD students working within the research group. You will have a good honours degree in physics, chemistry, functional materials, electronic or electrical engineering and should have a PhD in a relevant discipline ideally including previous experience of semiconductor device physics. Practical research expertise in a clean room environment, glove box usage, and in electrical measurement is desirable. The initial contracts will be for 18 months and extendable based on performance. Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary equivalent to Level 3.6 (£30,688) to successful applicants who have been awarded, but are yet to receive, their PhD certificate. Once the original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Department, the salary will be increased to Level 4.1 (£31,604).
