Global challenges regarding energy and climate change, the environment, health, food safety, technology and renewable solutions, use and conservation of land and natural resources, and development of the bio-economy, requires greater effort. On 1 January 2014, the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science and the University of Life Sciences merged and became -NMBU, the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. NMBU has 1700 employees and 5200 students, and is currently located on two campuses - Ås, about 30 km south of Oslo, and Adamstuen in Oslo. In 2020, the new research- and education-building for veterinary science will be completed and all of NMBU will then be located at Campus Ås.

The Faculty of Landscape and Society announces a postdoctoral position at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning in land use planning and transport planning.

 

The position is for four years and combines research and teaching in an approximately equal share additional to some administrative obligations.

 

The Faculty of Landscape and Society has 1300 students and 180 staff. It consists of five sub-units, carrying out research and education in the fields of urban and regional planning, property management and law, landscape architecture, international environment and development studies, and public health.

 

The Department of Urban and Regional Planning has 22 staff and six PhD students, with backgrounds including urban and regional planning, environmental and landscape planning, architecture, human geography, political science and sociology. Their main fields of expertise are substantive and procedural aspects of urban planning, regional planning in urban and rural areas, place development and place making, sustainable urban development, land use and transport planning, environmental and landscape planning, the planning system and planning theory. These fields are pursued in research, education and outreach. The department has also responsibility for a 5-year master program in Urban and Regional Planning, with around 160 students.

 

 

The position

The postdoctoral fellowship is in the broad area of land use and transport planning, with an emphasis on sustainable mobility in urban areas.

 

We seek a person with an interest in, and with knowledge of, how to plan for urban sustainable mobility, including public transport, walking and cycling. We also welcome candidates interested in the design of urban spaces promoting sustainable mobility.

 

The successful applicant must pursue an own postdoctoral research agenda, including scientific publications and development of new research and take part in teaching in the master program Urban and Regional Planning.

 

 

Academic Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD degree, or have a PhD thesis accepted for defence in urban and regional planning or in social sciences with a relevant topic for urban and regional planning when submitting the application. Appointment in the position is conditional on the candidate having successfully defended the PhD thesis.

 

It is desirable that applicants hold a master's degree in urban and regional planning or a related field such as landscape architecture, architecture, social sciences or the humanities.
