Descripción de la oferta de trabajo:

We are looking for a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher to work on our experimental research on two-dimentional (2D) materials heterostructures and devices. The project focuses on 2D materials and covers different aspects of material growth, device fabrication, and electrical and quantum transport measurements.

This postdoc position is a collaborative research initiative between experimental and theoretical groups working on 2D materials heterostructures at Chalmers. The experimental research will be mentored by Samuel Lara Avila, Saroj Prasad Dash, and Sergey Kubarkin at Quantum Device Physics laboratory at Dept. of Microtechnology and Nanoscience (MC2). The experimental research will be complemented by another theory postdoc with supervision from Julia Wiktor at the Department of Physics.

Information about the Quantum Device Physics Laboratory

At the Quantum Device Physics Laboratory (QDP) we perform research in nanoscale devices made with emerging materials that we tailor down to the atomic scale. Our research extends over a variety of topics: 2D materials and van der Waals heterostructures, topological Dirac and Weyl materials, semiconductors, oxide heterostructures, nanomagnets, and superconductors. We develop new concepts in device physics, and applications in quantum metrology, topological quantum technologies, thermoelectrics, quantum theory, radio astronomy, medical instrumentation, and spintronics.

The QDP laboratory is placed in the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience – MC2, which is a unique research department in the areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology, housing more than 200 researchers and Ph.D. students. We focus our research on the areas of future nano- and quantum electronics, photonics, bio- and nanosystems. MC2 houses a state of the art 1200 m2 nanofabrication cleanroom facility with the latest equipment inside class 10-100 cleanroom environment.

Major responsibilities

The postdoc will be responsible for experimental research on 2D material growth/heterostructure assembly, device fabrication, and electronic and quantum transport measurements.

We aim at producing and studying new kinds of 2D systems for making all-2D field-effect transistors and quantum devices. Unlike bulk 3D materials, epitaxial 2D semiconductors offer sharp band edges and lack of dangling bonds, can maintain excellent device electrostatics even at much-reduced channel lengths due to their atomic thinness, and offer the possibility to achieve atomically clean and sharp material interfaces. Combining our 2D technology, the project aims at paving the road for the next-generation transistors, which will be faster and energy-efficient, required by large-scale digitalized society.

The equipment and infrastructure available for the execution of this project are: reactor for growth of epitaxial graphene on SiC, CVD growth in Aixtron BM HT Pro, PVD growth in a horizontal tube furnace. Device fabrication and characterization will be performed in state-of-the-art cleanroom. For electrical measurements, our lab is equipped with DC/high-frequency electrical characterization (magneto transport) at low-temperatures and magnetic fields up to B=14T.

Position summary

Full-time temporary employment, with a competitive salary according to Swedish and Chalmers regulations. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).

Qualifications

You are an experimentalist with a solid background in condensed matter physics, with experience in either electronic transport measurements at low temperatures, and/or device fabrication techniques in cleanroom environment, and/or in 2D material growth/characterization methods.

You must hold a Ph.D. degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Material science, Nanotechnology, or equivalent. An additional merit is if you have experience in designing and constructing experimental setups.

You are a hands-on person, with strong inner driving force and capabilities for independent work, excellent collaboration skills in a research team, and good oral and written communication skills in English.
