Two postdoctoral positions are available at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR – http://www.cpr.ku.dk), University of Copenhagen. Salary: ~50,000-54,000€ PA, plus 17.1% in pension contributions. About CPR and the research Group The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR) at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, has been established to promote basic and applied discovery research on human proteins of medical relevance. The Center comprises a wide range of expertise and skills, from proteomics, bioinformatics, high-content microscopy, high-throughput protein production, to functional dissection of complex signaling systems. The “Proteomics and Cell Signaling” group at CPR is led by Group Leader Prof. Chunaram Choudhary. The Choudhary group works closely with other groups at CPR, especially with Prof. Matthias Mann with whose group we share the laboratory space and infrastructure. The group applies cutting-edge mass spectrometry (MS)-based technologies for unbiased identification and quantification of posttranslational modifications, such as ubiquitylation, phosphorylation and acetylation. Using these approaches we study cell signaling at a “systems-level” in response to different perturbations (such as growth factor stimulation, chemical and genetic perturbations etc.). We use CRISPR-based genome editing for mapping protein-protein interactions and for functional investigations of lead hits from proteome-wide screens. In addition to the state-of-the-art mass spectrometry, the laboratory is equipped with the cutting-edge infrastructure for molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry work. The Center offers the latest technologies and expertise for genome-wide screens, the next-generation nucleic acid sequencing, high-resolution microscopy, live cell imaging, and protein biophysical characterizations. Our group is technically and internationally diverse and embedded in excellent environment for high-quality research and collaboration. The group consistently publishes in top-ranked journals and has outstanding track-record in in training the next generation of researchers. We are now looking for highly motivated and qualified postdoc candidates to join our research group. Please find more information about the Group here: http://www.choudharylab.org Project Description The candidates will use a combination of the cutting-edge proteomics and CRSPR-based genome editing methods to investigate the dynamics and functions of ubiquitylation and acetylation in genetically defined cell models. Among other tasks, this will include generation of knockout cell lines, affinity-tagging of endogenous proteins, mass spectrometry-based analysis of protein-protein interactions and proteome-wide quantification of PTMs. The project about acetylation signaling will also include global analysis of transcript abundance (i.e. RNA-Seq) and genome-wide mapping of specific epigenetic marks (i.e. Chip-Seq) using the next generation nucleic acid sequencing technologies. The candidate is expected to apply various biochemical and molecular biology approaches for biological follow-up experiments on novel and interesting findings derived from large-scale proteomic screens. Tentative start date: Summer/autumn 2017. Qualifications The candidates should have demonstrated excellent scientific productivity, evidenced by high-quality research publications, be able to conduct independent and creative research, and show good inter-personal and communication skills.
The candidates are required to have a PhD or equivalent degree in natural or medical science.
Excellent scientific track-record, including at least one publication as first author in a high-quality, peer reviewed international journal.
