We do this through three interconnected activities: (i) Identification of essential traits and quantification of the associated trade-offs for the main life forms in the ocean (from microbes to mammals); (ii) development of trait based models of marine populations, communities, and ecosystems; (iii) descriptions of spatio-temporal patterns and distributions of species and traits in marine systems. DTU Aqua provides research, advice and education at the highest international level within the sustainable exploitation of living marine and freshwater resources, the biology of aquatic organisms and the dynamics of ecosystems, and their integration in ecosystem-based management.
