Descripción de la oferta de trabajo:

DTU Management invites applications for a 3-year position as PhD student in the Responsible Technology Group. In the group, we focus on the processes through which technologies are developed and implemented in a socially sustainable and responsible manner in order to benefit society. In particular, we are researching the role of values and communication in the processes of technological innovation.

The PhD position is in Science and Technology Studies with a focus on public communication, sociology of innovation and responsible innovation. Our objective with the project is to study public communication on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in China and Denmark in collaboration with partners at the University of Chinese Academy of Science (UCAS). The objective is to make a comparative study of innovation communication regarding AI.

Responsibilities and tasks

In the project, we adopt a perspective of studying innovation communication as an integrated part of the research and innovation process. Communication is therefore not an add-on to AI development, but a constituent part of how technologies can and will be developed. High expectations can generate positive development, but such expectations can also be counterproductive. The project is multi-method in character and we will use different data sources and analytical strategies for triangulation.

As a successful candidate, you will work in close collaboration with the supervisor, Maja Horst, but will also be expected to carry out research tasks independently. In particular, you will be responsible for developing the methodological framework for media analysis in China and Denmark. It is part of the project to undertake a 1 year research stay at SDC in Beijing during which period you will be part of the research group of our collaborators at UCAS. You are also supposed to contribute to the teaching at SDC, particularly a master's degree course in science and innovation policy.

You should have a relevant two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar qualification with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree. A relevant background could be a degree in Science and Technology Studies, Media and Communication or Sociology. Knowledge of and experience with media research methods is imperative.

Due to funding constraints in the SDC agreement, Chinese citizens including citizens from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao are not eligible for the position.

Approval and Enrolment

The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and you will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see the DTU PhD Guide.
