Descripción de la oferta de trabajo:

Reference Number:      013225 Department:                   English Studies Location:                        Durham City Contract Type:              Full Time, Fixed Term (up to 4 years, ending 30 June 2022)                                           This role is full time but we will consider requests for flexible working arrangements including potential job shares Grade:                            Grade 7 (£32,548) Opening Date:               23 April 2018 Closing Date:                 23 May 2018 (midday)   Applications are invited for a to join ‘The Political Warfare Executive, Covert Propaganda, and British Culture’, a Leverhulme Trust-funded research project led by Dr James Smith with Professor Jo Fox and Professor Patricia Waugh as Co-Investigators.

The Political Warfare Executive was Britain's most significant clandestine propaganda agency of the Second World War.

It covertly recruited numerous well-known authors for its subversion campaigns, yet the secrecy of its work means that its operations have remained a missing dimension in modern literary history.

Using government archives, propaganda collections, and literary texts, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will work closely with the project investigators to systematically analyse the PWE's cultural interactions, addressing how the UK's intelligentsia contributed towards this wartime propaganda, and examining how the PWE's legacy lived on in post-war literature and cultural discourses.

With guidance from the PI, the PDRA will: conduct the bulk of the project's archival research, disseminate archival findings to team members, assist with identifying and analysing relevant literary texts, and conduct further research and analysis in areas of specific expertise.

The PDRA will also be expected to: develop project publications (as sole or joint author as appropriate), organise activities such as a conference and seminars, help mentor the project’s PhD student, and maintain the project’s website and social media presence.

This position will come with a dedicated budget for research expenses such as travel and accommodation.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an early career scholar to develop his or her research profile as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The post-holder is employed to work on a research project which will be led by another colleague.

Whilst this means that the post-holder will not be carrying out independent research in his/her own right, the expectation is that they will contribute to the advancement of the project, through the development of their own research ideas/adaptation and development of research protocols.

Successful applicants will, ideally, be in post by 1 July.
