Astrophysics and Atmosphere Physics Department at the Department of Space Research and technology, DTU Space seeks a mechanical engineer to be included in the Department's permanent Staff of engineers. DTU Space develops instruments and detectors to be used in space where they are used for research in astrophysics, the physics of the solar system and geodesy.

Design of Mechanics

The tasks will primarily be the design of structures for space research and for application on Earth.

Experience with space technology

Applicants must have a master's degree in mechanics and have knowledge of space environment and spacecraft instrumentation. In addition, it is anticipated that the applicant has the following qualifications:

  • Experience with CAD design
  • Experience with the development of Finite Element models
  • Experience with structural analysis of FE models
  • Experience with the development of thermal models
  • Experience with analysis of thermal design

Furthermore, we emphasize:

  • Willingness to cooperate and make decisions.
  • Calmness, innovation and the ability to perform in a busy environment.
  • The ability to follow formal procedures.

Space instrumentation imply a significant amount of documentation, the applicant must therefore have the ability to learn and understand ESA and NASA requirements for space instrumentation, and must therefore be able to speak, read and write in English. Since a large part of the work is carried out in international cooperation, some travel activity must be expected.

Salary and appointment terms

The position is rated at 37 hours per week. Your appointment and salary will be based on the collective agreement between the Danish State and the Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).

The division is currently active in operation of instruments on and data analysis from three satellites. The division also runs four instrumentation laboratories and hosts a center for space weather research and forecasts.
