We are seeking to appoint a full-time Consultant Ophthalmologist for a fixed term period of 12 months at Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to commence as soon as possible. Key duties will include general ophthalmology services including primary care and the successful candidate would be expected and encouraged to develop a sub special interest, which will fit well within the needs of the Department, both current and future. A strong commitment from the appointee to the department and involvement with activities within the department such as audit, appraisal and assessment, clinical governance and development of guidelines is also expected. The successful applicant will be expected to work as part of a team of 10 consultants and 2 Associate Specialists and will be required to contribute to the on-going development of the Ophthalmology Department at Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Burton Hospital Ophthalmology Department provides a full diagnostic, assessment and treatment service for Paediatric, emergency and elective eye in-patients. We offer the best of the Staffordshire and Derbyshire regions when it comes to relocation opportunities and life/work balance. Our main hospital, Queen’s in Burton upon Trent, borders the National Forest and is within easy reach of the Peak District, offering outstanding natural beauty and the opportunity to take part in healthful pursuits such as hiking, biking and camping. Please note: Appointment to this 10 PA post which includes a commitment to a 1:10 On-call rota is subject to the provisions of the Terms and Conditions of the new Consultant contract 2003. Further conditions have been implemented by the Trust that have been negotiated with the Medical and Dental Local Negotiating Committee.
