  Job Description   Please complete all accessible boxes and refer to the guidance on writing Job Descriptions   Position Details Faculty/Professional Support Service Faculty of Business and Law School/Department Business School Division/Section/Unit Accounting, Finance and Banking Job Title Lecturer Vacancy No Recruitment Team   Grade 8   Hours of Work 22.2 Contract Duration (Perm/Fixed Term) Fixed Term for 1 year Reports To (Job Title) Head of Department Responsible For (Job Title) N/A Principal Accountabilities Teach on undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes to develop effective independent learners.   Take responsibility for own units and contribute to the effective management of programmes to achieve a positive student experience.   Undertake research, knowledge exchange, and other scholarly activity to contribute to the development of new areas in the relevant field, delivering commercial enterprise activity where appropriate.   Key Tasks LEARNING & TEACHING   Be responsible for the delivery and review of module and unit content in response to student feedback and needs; ensure that content is reflective of current practice and meets departmental objectives and learning outcomes.   Use a variety of creative learning and teaching methods/materials (e.g. web-based and blended learning); challenge ideas, foster debate and encourage students to develop skills in critical discourse and rational thinking.   Develop appropriate and challenging assessments that measure student performance and that learning outcomes have been met; set students’ work, assess and make sound judgements about progress, providing feedback that is honest, detailed and constructive.   Be the designated Academic/Personal Tutor for a small group of students, maintaining an overview of their progress and providing advice and support on academic and pastoral issues, to ensure their success.  This will include signposting students to other support services in the University as appropriate.   Proactively and effectively engage with quality assurance and enhancement procedures, to uphold university standards and ensure that the curriculum portfolio remains current and that assessment procedures are relevant.   Supervise the work of taught postgraduate and/or research students, as required, to support the development of students’ research skills.   RESEARCH & KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE   Use initiative, creativity and judgement in the development of research proposals and/or enterprise bids; secure research funding and/or generate additional income for the University as appropriate.   Analyse data, evaluate information, write and publish results of research and enterprise projects to support departmental objectives and further scholarly activity in the area; use research findings to inform learning and teaching.   Participate in formal networks; develop internal and external partnerships in order to disseminate information, share best practice, establish opportunities for collaborative work and enhance the reputation of the University.   TEAM WORKING   Manage own workload so that deadlines and the competing demands of teaching, administration, research, enterprise and scholarly activity are met.   Achieve goals through working flexibly with colleagues in the Faculty and across the University.   Promote the Department and Manchester Metropolitan University by supporting a range of departmental activities such as recruitment and admissions, open days and other student events; use these activities as an opportunity to gain a better understanding of student needs and expectations.   Actively engage with the peer mentoring scheme to support the development of self and others and to ensure high quality learning and teaching.   Introduce new colleagues to the department by providing support and training on the skills, processes, an
