You will be part of a team applying human in vitro systems to study mode of action and predict potential liabilities if nouvel drug candidates. As a highly motivated scientist you will be dedicated to the development and application of advanced cellular models incorporating components of the immune system, and will participate primarily in the early profiling of drug candidates across different disease areas. You will be responsible for designing and conducting in vitro experimental activities addressing molecular and cellular aspects in combination with imaging technologies for drug safety and pharmacology. Particularly, you will focus on 3D multi-cellular cultures, microphysiological systems and organ-on-a-chip approaches. In addition, you will: Bring emerging knowledge and expertise in the field of microphysiological systems Be responsible for conceptual and hands-on laboratory activities including scientific planning, design and execution of in vitro experiments for the assessment of drug induced, immune mediated organ toxicities and elucidation of mode of action Collaborate with and supervise research associates Work in a multidisciplinary team in close collaboration with internal customers and stakeholders, i.e. liaise with team, group leader, project managers and experts in disease areas and functions across pRED (Pharma Research and Early Development) Different levels of responsibilities and accountabilities may be assigned to take account of the skills capabilities and experience of the individual. You are a junior postdoc or accomplished PhD scientist who is motivated to enter the pharmaceutical industry and contribute to the advancement of science and innovation under the supervision of a laboratory group leader. In addition, you have: Ph.D. in cell biology, bioengineering or related fields. Alternatively, a Master with a minimum of 3 years of job experience in cell biology, experimental immunology and advanced in vitro cellular assays Extensive experience with human cell culture, including primary cells, 3D models, microphysiological systems and organ-on-a-chip technologies Good understanding of immunology and molecular biology, expertise in fields such as liver, vascular models as well as CRISPR or RNAi Solid skills in immunostaining, confocal imaging, image analysis, flow cytometry Independent research skills such as designing, executing and interpreting experiments, as demonstrated by previous publications A strong passion to to develop and bring to life new ideas on how to advance in vitro models for specific needs in drug development Outstanding communication skills, strong passion and commitment to science and enjoys working in a multidisciplinary and diverse team Who we are Basel is the headquarters of the Roche Group and one of its most important centres of pharmaceutical research.
