PURPOSE OF ROLE The post of Contract Manager shall be to provide an opportunity to build on the success of the existing activity by developing new business, probably organised by way of cluster areas around the existing infrastructure throughout the region. The Contract Manager (North London Arboriculture) shall manage, organise and take responsibility for all arboriculture activity in the region. The Contract Manager (North London Arboriculture) should also be prepared to take the initiative and continually improve operational activity. The person requires ambition and a high level of commitment.The Contract Manager is critical to decision-making processes within the business and must gain the trust and loyalty of all the stakeholders in the company. The main responsibilities for the Contract Manager will be: *To provide the leadership required to meet local objectives, directing the commercial activity of the contracts under his/her control to secure a level of financial performance that is at least as good as budgeted. *To monitor the financial performance of the contracts under his/her control through the company's financial and reporting procedures, and to assist the Regional Director in the setting of budgets. *To contribute fully to the effective running of the business, working with the Regional Director to build and maintain a sound and effective organisational structure, recruiting, training and motivating staff in accordance with the company's HR policies and procedures. *To play a leading role in securing new commercial business opportunities, tendering and pricing as required in accordance with the Pricing Policy. *To build, develop and maintain good working relationships with the company's stakeholders, safeguarding the company's image and credibility. *To support the Regional Health and Safety Advisor by monitoring health, safety and welfare within his/her area of operational responsibility, and to actively participate in the maintenance and improvement of the company's overall health, safety and welfare culture. *To ensure the maintenance of quality standards, in particular the application of the company's Quality Management Systems for BS EN 9001:2000 and BS EN ISO 14001:1996. The Contract Manager will also focus, day-to-day, on the following tasks: Financial reporting, including: *The submission of considered and reasoned forecasts of sales, costs and profits. *The review of management accounts and the production of accurate monthly forecasts. *The review of stock levels and the value of work-in-progress. *Overseeing the effective commercial running of the contracts under his/her control, evaluating on-going vehicle and machinery requirements. *Monitoring the effective organisational structure for the contracts within the region, including recruiting staff and disciplining employees as necessary to ensure that all employees are effectively managed. *Complying with Quality Management System procedures. *Monitoring the company's Health, Safety and Welfare policy and associated procedures. Liaising with client officers to: *Agree forward programmes of work; *Inspect and certify work that has been undertaken; *Agree the value and priority for additional works; *Agree the invoice sums due; *Agree payment dates; *Chase debtor payments. *Securing on-going accreditation as Arboriculture Association Approved Contractor for the region. QUALIFICATIONS A nationally recognised professional arboriculture qualification, for example: The Certificate in Arboriculture (RFS) ~ NVQ Level 2 ~, or The Technician's Certificate (AA) ~ NVQ Level 3 ~, or The Diploma in Arboriculture (RFS) ~ NVQ Level 4. A nationally recognised academic Arboriculture qualification to at least NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, for example: The National Certificate (BTEC or EdExcel) ~ NVQ Level 3 ~, or The Advanced National Certificate, or The National Diploma, or The Higher National Certificate or Diploma ~ NVQ Level 4 ~, or A Foundation Degree, or A Bachelor
