The Irish Family Planning Association (IFPA) is Ireland's leading sexual health provider. We provide a wide range of services at our medical clinics and nationwide counselling centres, including specialist pregnancy counselling, abortion care, sexual and reproductive health services, and education and training.

We are committed to ensuring that every person in Ireland can exercise sexual and reproductive rights and choices with respect for reproductive autonomy and bodily integrity.

An opportunity has arisen for a suitable candidate to join the IFPA's Advocacy and Communications Team as a Communications Officer.

The Communications Officer will support the development and implementation of the organisation's communications strategy, in line with the IFPA's strategic plan. The strategic plan is available on the IFPA website.

The Communications Officer plays an essential role in ensuring the continued quality, consistency and clarity of the use of English in the IFPA's internal and public-facing written materials.

The successful applicant will require:

•    At least five years relevant employment experience.

•    A university degree in journalism, media and communications, social sciences, humanities, health or other relevant field.

•    Knowledge, understanding and commitment to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in Ireland and globally.

•    Understanding of the diverse communications needs of an organisation that both provides services and engages in policy and advocacy.

•    Understanding of barriers faced by vulnerable and marginalised communities in Ireland in access to SRH services.

•    Understanding of the print, broadcast online media environment in Ireland.

•    Excellent written and spoken English/ability to draft, edit and proof-read content for publication.

•    Experience of writing in clear, accurate English in a range of styles and for diverse audience

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

•    Collaborate with key colleagues in the strategic development and implementation of the IFPA’s communications and media strategies.

•    Manage all media enquiries; draft press releases, comments, and responses as appropriate, ensuring the correct message reaches the media in a timely manner.  

•    Build relationships with journalists.

•    Brief and prepare IFPA spokespeople ahead of media appearances.

•    Coordinate and manage logistics of IFPA events

•    Proactively generate media coverage

•    Monitor media coverage of SRHR issues.

•    Manage the IFPA website and social media channels.

•    Ensure quality and consistency of IFPA internal and external communications.

•    Collaborate with colleagues to develop information resources, including case studies and vignettes.

•    Draft, proofread, and copy-edit submissions, reports, articles and other content for publication.

•    Quality control of IFPA branding across relevant platforms.

•    Represent the IFPA on relevant working groups/committees.

•    Other tasks as assigned by the CEO or Director of Advocacy and Communications.
