Post: Post-doctoral Researcher - DyeSICPhoto Project (Fixed-Term Specified Purpose Wholetime for 5 years) (Reference 404'2023)

Location:  The successful candidate will initially be based in TU Dublin, Camden Row but may be reassigned at the discretion of TU Dublin.

Hours of Work: A 37 hour working week is in operation.

Salary: The successful candidate will be appointed at point (01) of the Post-Doctoral Researcher Salary Scale i.e. €45,322 gross per annum.

Closing Date: The closing date for applications is 5pm (Irish Time) on Tuesday, 2nd April 2024. Late applications will not be accepted.

It is anticipated that interviews for this post will take place in week beginning April 29th 2024. The interview assessment will be 40 minutes in length and will include a presentation of 8 minutes duration. The topic of this presentation will be as follows:

“Synthesis of novel molecular systems that I have conducted as part of my previous research”.

Knowledge and Experience

•    A PhD degree in Chemistry (Essential)

•    A strong background in organic chemistry and organic synthesis (Essential)

•    Previous research experience in the field of photochemistry and/or functional dyes    

(Desirable)

•    A strong background in spectroscopic techniques, including NMR, IR, UV-Vis and

          fluorescence spectroscopy ((Essential)

•    Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to present information

effectively to a range of audiences. (Desirable)

•    Evidence of a research profile and publication record within the requisite technical area

Role Overview

Funded by the Science Foundation Ireland, the DyeSICPhoto project aims to develop a conceptually new type of functional dyes and unlock their practical potential in photonics. This will be achieved by optimization of the spin-orbit charge transfer intersystem crossing (SOCT-ISC) process in electron donor-acceptor molecular systems. New dyes will be designed to operate either as bright fluorophores or photosensitizers transferring energy to other molecules, depending on environmental parameters, applied external stimuli, or activating species. In addition to having significant fundamental importance for understanding the photophysics of organic molecules this work will afford advanced materials with high added value for biophotonics and energy conversion. We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher with experience in organic synthesis.
