The Protein Research Group at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Odense is seeking a skilled Proteomics Data Scientist to join our team. This role is pivotal in supporting our proteomics research program, specifically focusing on large-scale data analysis within our INTEGRA infrastructure, the National Health Data Science Sandbox,  and the maintenance and enhancement of the bio.tools registry within ELIXIR, the European Infrastructure for Life Sciences. We take advantage of cloud platforms and software containers to enhance performance and usability of our computational proteomics resources. This data scientist position is an exciting opportunity to contribute to national and international research projects in a highly collaborative and dynamic working environment at SDU. The position is initially for 1 year with possibility for extension. The position is available from May 1, 2024, or soon thereafter.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Proteomics Data Analysis: You will support our cloud system for analyzing mass spectrometry/proteomics data, maintaining software and adding new powerful tools to generate meaningful information from complex large-scale quantitative proteomics datasets.
  • Maintenance and Improvement of ELIXIR bio.tools Registry: Your role includes the upkeep and enhancement of the bio.tools registry with >29.000 tool annotations, ensuring its relevance and utility for the scientific community.
  • Contribution to Mass Spectrometry Research: You will support and contribute to bioinformatics and computational proteomics research in our projects by implementing new approaches for data analysis in clinical proteomics, top-down protein characterization and in mass spectrometry imaging.
  • Collaboration and Support: Working in the Protein Research Group and within the ELIXIR Tools Platform, you will collaborate with international researchers and data scientists, providing essential education, training and support in computational proteomics for ongoing projects.

Your Academic Profile:

  • Qualifications: A MSc or PhD degree (or equivalent experience) in bioinformatics, computer science, biostatistics, or a related field.
  • Programming Skills: Strong programming skills in standard scripting languages such as R and Python are essential. Knowledge of JavaScript is recommended.
  • Experience in Mass Spectrometry/Proteomics Data Analysis: A strong background in mass spectrometry/proteomics data analysis is highly prioritized, including also familiarity with machine learning and deep-learning methods.
  • Further Technologies: Familiarity with database technologies, Linux environments, and experience with cloud computing platforms is recommended.

  • Flexibility: Willingness to take on various tasks and adapt to new challenges.
