Band 5 Paediatric Rotation Nurse Are you a student nurse qualifying soon or already qualified but looking for a new development opportunity? We are offering an 18 month rotation programme across our Paediatric A &E, wards and Neonatal department; with a guaranteed permanent post on completion. Includes 6 months on our general paediatric areas; Rainbow including HDU or Starlight and the Paediatric assessment unit. 6 months in our dedicated Paediatric A&E department and 6 months in our neonatal department. Rainbow Ward is a 25 bed inpatient ward with HDU capacity; there are multiple opportunities to develop your skills in general paediatrics with support from our team of dedicated nurses, Specialist Nurses and the Practice Development Nurse who supports all the Paediatric Clinical Areas. You will learn HDU skills in caring for patients requiring respiratory support such as CPAP, children with a tracheostomy, in delivering intensive nutritional support such as Parenteral Nutrition and in delivering chemotherapy for our oncology patients. Starlight Ward is a 9 bedded short stay ward looking after children for up to 48hrs. It is linked to our Paediatric Assessment Unit PAU and has been recently refurbished to provide a welcoming environment. Our PAU is a 24 hour facility for the assessment and treatment of children who require urgent paediatric care. You will learn assessment skills and undertake some protocol nurse led initiatives such as asthma weaning. We also provide day surgery and rapid assessment clinics. Our unit has well established links to tertiary centres and we provide acute and elective care across a range of clinical specialties including oncology, haematology, urology, ophthalmology and dental services. Opportunities are available to become skilled in cannulation and venepuncture. Sunrise is our Neonatal unit, comprising 2 ITU, 4 HDU and 16 Special Care Cots, caring for babies from 27 weeks gestation. This is a busy unit, often caring for more than 4 HDU babies. You will be supported to learn neonatal skills and become competent in care delivery. There is a dedicated Practice Development Nurse and Clinical Practice Facilitator based in the unit to provide extra support during this rotation. You will also have the option to spend some shifts working with the outreach nurse. Our very busy Paediatric A&E department provides family centred care for babies and children from a diverse local community presenting with minor and major illnesses. As a band 5 nurse you will get the opportunity to learn about Paediatric Emergency Skills as we continue to develop the service we provide to our local and wider community. We are staffed by dedicated and friendly Paediatric Nurses and supported by 2 paediatric A&E consultants, as well as our Paediatric Nurse Practitioners and GP service.
