Descripción de la oferta de trabajo:
Introduction Applied Physicist for detector gas systems in the Experimental Physics Department (EP), Detector Technology Group (DT), Fluidic Systems Section (FS) You will join: The Experimental Physics (EP) Department which carries out basic research in the field of experimental and theoretical particle physics in a stimulating scientific atmosphere, standing as an important reference for the European physics community. It also contributes to the education and training of young scientists. The Detector Technologies (DT) group which participates in the development, construction and operation of particle detectors for experiments at CERN. This comprises detector consolidation and upgrade projects as well as infrastructure and services for experiments. The Fluidic Systems Section which is charged to design, prototype, construct, commission, operate and maintain fluidic systems (gas and cooling) for detectors in CERN experiments. It has also the mandate to perform selective R&D in areas relevant to novel detector thermal management, gas systems and for the upgrade of the existing systems in view of higher detector performances and sustainable operation. Functions As an Applied Physicist in the Fluidic Systems Section, you will: Participate in the design and construction of new gas systems for particle physics detectors, evaluating the performances required with respect to the detector operation; Take responsibility for the maintenance and operation (M&O) of the CERN existing gas systems (about 30), supervising the section operation team in close contact with the M&O responsible for the CO2 cooling team; Assume a leading role in the upgrade and operation of the gas quality monitoring system, proposing innovative solutions and operating methods in agreement with the experiments; Make major contributions to the R&D program of the gas team, focused on the search and validation of new environmentally friendly gas mixtures, the development of new gas systems to enhance the detector performances, the optimization of system design to guarantee the long-time operation for physics exploitation. Qualification required PhD in the field of physics, or equivalent. Experience and competencies The experience required for this post is: Understanding of the constraints for design, construction, operation and maintenance of particle physics detectors. Demonstrated experience in the design, operation and performance evaluation of gas systems for particle physics detectors. Proven understanding of gas mixtures for particle detectors, radiation effects and degradation. Experience in scientific publication and presentation. The technical competencies required for this post are: Gas based particle detection technologies: resistive plate chambers, wire chambers, micro-pattern gas detectors operation. Design of detector gas distribution systems. Commissioning, maintenance and operation of gas systems for detectors. Residual gas analysis: gas analysis methods, purification systems. Knowledge of leak detection. The behavioural competencies required for this post are: Achieving results: having a structured and organised approach towards work; being able to set priorities and plan tasks with results in mind; delivering prompt and efficient service taking into account customer needs. Learning and sharing knowledge: proposing ways to improve or streamline existing procedures, processes and methodologies. Demonstrating accountability: presenting information accurately and objectively. Working in teams: supporting and acting in accordance with team decisions; accepting joint responsibility for team successes and shortcomings. The language competencies required are: Spoken and written English or French; ability to understand and speak the other language in professional contexts. Ability to draw-up technical specifications and/or scientific reports and to make oral presentations in at least one of the two languages. Eligibility conditions Diversity h
